The MacGregor Flooring Company based in Hamilton, just outside Glasgow, are widely renowned as the one of the leading specialist commercial flooring companies in Scotland. Established back in 1985 when the first mobile phone call was made and we discovered the ozone layer, this family-owned business now has over 30 years’ experience within the contract flooring sector delivering a no-nonsense level of quality service with the products to match.

It’s a supply situation that suits the high levels of quality manufacturing and service that international interiors and flooring specialists Gerflor excel at.

Kenny Smith, Contracts Director, MacGregor Flooring, who has been with the firm for almost twenty-seven years’ comments, “any flooring contract is only as good as the products being used. It is very hard for us to provide our clients with a Rolls Royce job if we’re being asked to use Lada parts”. Like most industries, flooring has its ‘touch points’ in terms of business relationships. Kenny Smith says, “I believe having a good working relationship with manufacturers is critical in terms of the service we require when discussing project prices, deliveries and complaints”. He goes on to further comment, “Gerflor have made significant improvements in the past couple of years in relation to the overall customer experience and this has manifested itself in their overall performance improving. It’s what you would expect of a global brand. In my opinion you see the true measure of any company when they are faced with having to deal with problems, be it with delivery or quality issues. Gerflor recognise this and try their very best to resolve these issues to everyone’s satisfaction”.

Supplying the right choice of products is crucial to any flooring manufacturer being able to satiate the market. Kenny Smith also adds, “I think Gerflor have a fantastic mix of products that allows them, unlike other manufacturers, to offer clients the complete package. I feel Gerflor are particularly strong in the education sector where they are able to offer flooring in all areas from toilets to classrooms to sports halls with a host of products like their Tarasafe Ultra H20, Taralay Impression Control and Taraflex”.

It complements the popular Tarasafe™ Ultra Safety vinyl range often installed in classrooms and corridors.

Taralay Impression Control, a range available in both contemporary Designs and Woods, it is a multi-purpose floorcovering available in 2m sheet format with a Group T wear rating that makes it ideal for tough, heavy traffic environments. Taraflex® can be used in various multi-specialist applications and is competitively priced for many new projects and refurbishments. The Sport M Evolution product offers a P1 category shock absorbency 25% to 35% and meets the EN 14904 Standard for indoor sports surfaces thus meeting Sport England requirements. The range also offers other solutions including products that provide greater than 45% force reduction (P3), making it unrivalled in the marketplace in terms of offering comfort and safety for users. Taraflex® meets the EN Standard of 22196 for anti- bacterial activity (E. coli – S. aureus – MRSA) (3) returning >99% levels of growth inhibition.

On a final note Kenny Smith comments, “Having laid all types of Gerflor products and liaising with our fitting teams, we can say that Gerflor ranges are amongst the best to lay in terms of the ease of fitting. The quality of the materials we receive direct from the factory is very impressive, although having visited the factory several years ago and seeing first-hand their quality control in action, it’s not surprising”
