This year’s Healthcare Estates Conference and Exhibition will take place over two days at Manchester Central on the 8th & 9th October with over 4,500 attendees expected. It’s an event which will see senior representatives from the NHS, Private Sector and businesses come together for the biggest showcase of products and services in the UK Healthcare market.
This year’s show provides international flooring specialist Gerflor with the perfect platform to showcase an array of healthcare-related solutions products. With over 60 years’ credible healthcare experience Gerflor is a respected manufacturer of innovative, design-led and sustainable solutions for flooring, wall and interior finishes. Hygiene and healthcare go together and with a wide choice of surface treatments, decision makers can be assured that Gerflor solutions can stand up to any rigorous maintenance regime. Gerflor understands the challenges facing healthcare professionals and as a manufacturer develops product innovations to address them, such as the Clean Corner System (Awarded the Procure 22 Annual Award for Innovation and Product Design). Gerflor provides seamless surface protection and a holistic approach for all healthcare applications.
The ranges on show this year include products for all healthcare environments developed through a thorough understanding of the specifications and standards required in this stringent market. Gerflor’s surface treatments are perfect for healthcare applications with unrivalled levels of chemical and stain resistance, together with reducing maintenance time and costs across a facility. With a wide a choice of surface treatments such as Gerflor’s EvercareTM, Protecsol® and Sparclean®, specifiers can be assured that Gerflor floorings can stand up to the most rigorous maintenance regimes.
Gerflor has developed the award-winning Clean Corner System, a patent pending, innovative corner solution which has been awarded the Procure 22 annual award for Innovation and Product Design. The Clean Corner System technology is a total and complete solution for installing corners that aids the control of contamination and meets the requirements of professionals in the pharmaceutical industry in accordance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) including easy coving with limited and easy welding. Controlling contamination in general healthcare environments together with ultra-clean areas such as burns units, pharmacies and operating theatres is always a challenge. Corners are where most of the imperfections are found: Their shape makes cleaning and decontamination difficult. Poorly welded, they can tear or sag under the weight of traffic.
The Clean Corner System is watertight, resistant and durable, easy to clean and decontaminate, offering a clean, attractive and uniform finish.
By combining the Mipolam range with its patented Evercare™ surface treatment, Gerflor has delivered a product that offers unparalleled stain resistance to blood and chemicals (including iodine), outstanding slip resistance in its field, extremely low maintenance and unique environmental credentials.
The Mipolam Symbioz™ homogenous range, is the company’s first flooring to contain a 100% bio-based plasticiser made of corn and wheat. The range now includes 38 stunning colours overall, with 14 brand new colours supplementing Mipolam Symbioz™ and a further 7 added to the new Mipolam Symbioz™ Nova collection (with a rubber appearance). The colour palette across the two complementary designs allows designers to specify creative flooring solutions for a vast selection of hardworking applications and healthcare markets.
Gerflor’s extensive product range allows customers to easily access a combined and complete floor, wall and finishing solution. The Gerflor offer adapts for a variety of healthcare establishments including combinations of comfort acoustic, compact and slip resistant flooring. Gerflor’s vinyl wall protection systems also provide the perfect solution to protect walls in a vast array of healthcare settings and perfectly complement their flooring systems. Gerflor provides systems for very specific applications such as; shower systems, stairs, full coving systems, warning surfaces and orientation strips. They also provide a range of both static-dissipative and static-conductive floors that meet all ESD control standards, including ATEX requirements, ensuring the protection of electronic equipment, components and people against electro-static discharge risks which can be a consideration for a host of operating theatre environments and on-site laboratories. The integrated range of solutions also affords a seamless journey towards; flooring, wall protection, handrails, corner/door protection and interior finishes (skirtings, entrance mats), together with technical solutions which includes adhesives and tools etc.
Most healthcare facilities see the durability of flooring as a crucial element of the overall specification. The movement of items such as beds, trolleys, wheelchairs and heavy medical equipment is a twenty-four-hour operation, therefore flooring needs to withstand the rigours of the everyday hospital environment. Gerflor’s Taralay Premium range is truly unique in delivering a mass coloured design flooring which offers outstanding performance for extremely high pedestrian traffic areas where high footfall is expected, providing a 100% pure homogenous wear layer that provides superior abrasion and traffic resistance along with long-lasting colours. This best in class flooring solution for healthcare environments also has the added benefit of being a sustainable choice as it incorporates 53% recycled contents with itself being 100% recyclable. It is 100% REACH compliant and an Indoor air quality value of 0 – with emissions being below detectable levels.

Gerflor are always on hand to offer advice on solutions specifically suited to healthcare environments. When the Accord Hospice in Paisley, Scotland, needed to modernise its Inpatient Unit they turned to Gerflor to supply their Taralay Impression Control safety flooring and Taralay Impression Comfort flooring. “We ticked all the boxes and have achieved great value for money,” said Helen Simpson, Chief Executive, Accord Hospice. “Following the building works we looked for furnishings and floorings to complement the changed environment. For the corridors we wanted something that felt like carpet but had a hygienic element: we are delighted, it is stunning. People come in and say, ‘what a beautiful carpet’ and we say, ‘it’s not carpet it’s vinyl flooring.’ Helen Simpson also added, “Gerflor’s flooring is also so much easier to clean and maintain than carpets from a housekeeping viewpoint, there is no need any longer to shampoo carpets as they have been replaced.”
Gerflor are always ready to assist customers with specifications, provide technical advice and free site surveys for both new build and refurbishments projects.
