Gerflor is proud to have been chosen as the Official Flooring Partner of Netball Scotland. International flooring specialist Gerflor together with Netball Scotland will work collaboratively together over the next 3 years, to ensure that Scotland leads the way in selecting the best-in-class indoor sports surfaces.
The Scottish Netball Association was founded in 1946 and formalised at its first AGM in 1947. At this time, most netball was played in the Glasgow and Lanarkshire areas, and as the sport grew players represented their country for the first time. Netball Scotland Limited was formed in 2007 and in conjunction with investment from Sport Scotland, partners and sponsors govern the sport to support the development of netball across Scotland and allow their national athletes to represent their country.
Netball Scotland is the National Governing Body of Netball in Scotland, responsible for the governance and development of the sport across the country. Netball Scotland provides opportunities for its membership of players, clubs, local associations, schools, FE/HE institutions, coaches, umpires, officials, and volunteers. Their vision is that one-day netball will be the first-choice sport for women and girls in Scotland and field successful teams on the international stage.
Netball Scotland is pleased to announce the launch of its partnership with Gerflor Geraldine McGuire, Head of Development said, “We very much look forward to working with Gerflor, a recognised specialist and world leader in resilient flooring solutions, who not only align with our values but who is committed to sustainable development.”
Geraldine McGuire added, “As we continue to build an infrastructure of places across Scotland to support the growth and ambition of our sport, we are delighted to recommend Gerflor to facility partners for consideration within their plans.”
Wayne Andrews, Sports Manager – North, Gerflor commented “I have always been extremely impressed with the methodology of how facilities select their sports flooring in Scotland. A clear knowledge displayed by Sport Scotland and the participation of various governing bodies, together with community involvement from local authorities all contribute to a matrix that ensures the flooring surfaces specified and installed are based on a strict selection criterion that meets the needs of the users.”
Whilst Netball Scotland manages the headline act of the National squad, “The Thistles,” also have a critical role in driving community engagement and increasing children and adults’ participation in exercise and sports to further benefit their health. They are also actively assisting sports facilities with design guidance and of course, in general increasing the awareness and interest in netball within the communities.
