When South Bromsgrove High school underwent a refurbishment and expansion programme back in 2007, they turned to international flooring specialists Gerflor to supply over 200m2 of their world class Taraflex® Performance vinyl sports flooring for their main sports hall. It’s a huge testament to the quality of Gerflor’s high manufacturing standards that after fourteen years (which has exceeded the 12-year standard Gerflor warranty) the Taraflex® sports flooring is still delivering optimum levels of safety and performance and continues to provide users with outstanding amounts of comfort. Even today, the flooring still looks stunning and aesthetically pleasing for its location despite all the years of its use.
South Bromsgrove High School is a co-educational, upper school and sixth form with academy status, located in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. With around 1,350 students on the roll the school delivers an active sports curriculum aimed at playing a variety of sports whilst making the play as enjoyable as possible for the variety of its users.
At the time of the refurbishment programme, a direct enquiry from the school to the Gerflor sports specialist prompted a tender to the Head Teacher and Bursar.
Wayne Andrews, Sports Specialist North for Gerflor commented, “back in 2007 there was a determination to specify the building to the highest standards and install the best flooring possible.” He went to add, “Gerflor’s Taraflex Performance was quickly identified as the natural choice due to its high levels of comfort, performance and safety for the pupils’ playing sports within this facility. The main factor was immediate impact protection for safety using a Gerflor Taraflex point elastic floor.”
Wayne Andrews continued, “our attention was drawn to the excellent continuing performance of the Taraflex flooring when Biddle Sports were asked to renew the line marking on the floor. Having previously worked with Taraflex floors they were surprised at how well the floor had been maintained and still performed as well as it had when first installed back in 2007.”
In the re-lining of the Taraflex® floor at the South Bromsgrove High School sports hall, the line marking for the courts would be pivotal in both the final look and overall performance. Mark Biddle, Biddle Sports said, “we worked directly for the school as court planning and marking is a specialised service. Court line painting was completed in one long day with all lines marked out to European standards of accuracy. Seeing the Gerflor Taraflex flooring looking so good and well maintained over the years has really contributed to its appearance.
Wayne Andrews went on to further say, “the Taraflex Performance at South Bromsgrove High School is really standing up to the test of time due to its durability, ease of maintenance and use of a multi-sports capability.”
